How To Plan A Photoshoot For Your Website
In the blogging world, a photo shoot for a reason is called a “styled photo shoot”. I had awesome fortune and timing that I was going to be able to use my styled photoshoot for two reasons; for the yearly 4ourty publication and my website.
I’ve mentioned before, photo shoots do not have to cost an arm and a leg.
To save money you can…
1. Ask for favors from friends and family that are professional stylists (nail, hair, clothing).
2. #AskFB for a photographer or stylist that would be able to do your shoot.
3. Trade skill for skill with another creative.
Do what you’ve got to do to get that website up!
I arranged to have my hair done by Jessica Martin-Day of Kinky Hair and Lash Studio and my nails were done by Tawanda Stephens of Brighter Image Day Spa. I chose local black-owned businesses to bring my vision to life and am so grateful for them allowing their talent to lead them.
I’d scheduled a half day off at my former 9-5. Everything was in place!
There was only one problem…
I am not a model and I knew nothing about photography. Most of the creative things I do come spare of the moment but, that does not mean I should look like an amateur. It was time to learn!
The most informative tools I found were on Pinterest and Youtube.
Pinterest allowed me to create an inspiration board for the poses, flat lays, and outfits I would wear the day of the shoot.

Youtube had sooooo many videos for photographers as well, lessons to teach how to be a good subject and ways to look at the camera.

I would be beside myself if I didn't take the time to emphasize the importance of having vision. Vision is not what you can already see but what is waiting in your heart to be created. Your vision is what will guide everything that you do. Although I have an amazing photographer, Xavier Duckett of VII Photography, he cannot tell me what my business should look like. Your photographer won’t either. A photo shoot, a website, a business coach can’t impact your business more than your God-given vision will.
Before you find yourself behind anyone’s lens make sure your vision is clear.
Happy shooting.
In the coming weeks, I will be sharing detailed information on how you can create and brand your own site.
Let me know, if you’re thinking of having your own photoshoot!
